Some of my friends in music in the US
  • Gilad Hekselman - great guitarist. This guy continually astounds me both with his swing and with his ability to cook shakshuka.
  • Mike Tucker - boston's tenor phenomenon. Watch out for this guy.
  • Sara Leib - wonderful vocalist currently based in LA who sings jazz and R&B. I'm on her jazz recording It's not the Moon.
  • Mark Small - beutiful tenor player who is sorely missed in New York when he's touring the world.
  • Sofia Koutsovitis - vocalist who performs music from every corner of north and south america. Leads her own octet and also sings with Alcatraz
  • Gabriel Guerrero - a very hip straight ahead jazz pianist and composer based in Boston. He currently plays in Bergonzi's band, and also writes some great tunes, some of which draw upon influences from his native Colombia.
  • Tyler Wood - a wonderful pianist, a long time friend, and truly unique voice on the piano, Tyler is a recent arrival in New York. He keeps a hand in a great variety of musical styles. You can hear me on a couple of the mp3s on his site, as you can also hear him on mine.

Links related to afroperuvian music
  • Teatro del Milenio (Lima) - one of my favorite afroperuvian bands hands down. I got to play one concert with them and I will never forget it for the rest of my life.
  • IEMPSA record company - This label's online catalog is a gold mine for recordings of all styles of fokloric peruvian music.
  • Alcatraz - afroperuvian band based in New York.
  • Marcos Napa - an incredible afroperuvian percussionist based in New York.

Organizations
  • AIJP (Asociación Internacional Jazz Perú) - this organization is largely responsible for keeping jazz music alive in Lima. They provide wonderful opportunities for young people interested in studying and playing jazz. Their site includes downloadable versions of their publication, to which I occasionaly contribute articles.
